ALPINA, a manufacturer of high-end automobiles based on BMW models and premium tyre manufacturer Pirelli present an individual version of the Ultra High Performance tyre P Zero, tailor-made for ALPINA.
Engineers of Pirelli developed this tyre precisely according to specifications of the Auto-mobile manufacture from the Bavarian town of Buchloe. With this special edition the re-nowned manufacturer will equip its new models BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo Saloon and Touring, both with all-wheel drive. ALPINA homologated this version of the P Zero, cus-tomized to the individual characteristics of these car models. The original equipment tyres are easy to recognize by the ALP-marking on the tyre wall.
With the new BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo, ALPINA sets standards in the class sports sa-loon with regard to outstanding driving dynamics as well as luxurious long-distance com-fort. Core technology is the latest generation of the 4.4-litre V8 engine with Bi-Turbo charging, the variable valve timing Valvetronic and the high-pressure direct fuel injection. The engine delivers 447 kW (608 hp) in the speed range between 5,750 and 6,250 revolu-tions per minute (rpm). The highest torque of 800 Nm is already available at 3,000 rpm.
The new BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo accelerates from 0 - 100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds (Touring: 3.7s), making it the fastest accelerating car ever produced by ALPINA. The sprint from 0 to 200 kmph takes just 11.4 seconds (Touring: 12.3s) on the way to a maxi-mum speed of 330 kmph (Touring: 322 kmph).
The P Zero with ALP-marking
In order to transmit this power on the road in every respect engineers from Pirelli designed an individual version of the P Zero in close cooperation with the chassis developers of AL-PINA. To meet the requirements specification of ALPINA the UHP summer tyre combines sportiness with good comfort features. Tyre technology derived from motorsport in combi-nation with a flat bead seat contour and an innovative tread profile allows for a pro-nounced transverse dynamics and precise steering behavior. Further advantages of the tyre are its low wear and the good driving behavior on wet roads. In sum, the Pirelli P Zero with the OE code ALP allows the new BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo to tap its full potential optimally in all situations.
Therefore this individual version of the UHP tyre complies with the Pirelli Perfect Fit strate-gy. According to it, the premium manufacturer designed and produced tailor-made tyres for individual vehicle models.
The marked P Zero is mounted in the dimensions 255/35 ZR20 on the front axle and 295/30 ZR20 (Touring: 285/30 ZR20) on the rear axle. The Pirelli tyres are mounted on ALPINA CLASSIC 20" forged wheels. They reinterpret the typical 20-spoke design and look very technical. Through the forging process, the compressed aluminum material ob-tains a higher strength and allows for a filigree, weight-optimized construction. This reduc-es the unsprung masses by more than 15 kilograms, which equates to about 25 per cent less weight than normal cast wheels.
